El Paso police officer shoots, injures trespassing suspect armed with ‘large rock’

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — An El Paso Police officer fired at a trespassing suspect after the suspect allegedly via a “giant rock” on the officer, in response to EPPD officers.

The incident occurred February 20, 2024 round 3:45 a.m. on the 7200 block of Royal Arms in West El Paso.

Police officers say that officers obtained a name about doable prison trespassing in a vacant condo. Inside, police officers say that officers discovered 24-year-old Efrain Rivera III and 22-year-old Dominick Giangrossi.

When the pair walked out of the condo one of many officers deployed a “less-than-lethal” weapon. The officers instructed Rivera and Giangrossi to give up, however police say Rivera threw a rock at one of many officers. That officer fired at Rivera, injuring him. Rivera then tried to run away, in response to police. The pair have been ultimately captured and whereas Giangrossi was taken into custody, police took River to an space hospital for gunshot wound therapy.

Officers booked Giangrossi into the El Paso County Detention Facility instantly and booked Rivera as soon as he was launched from the hospital.

Officers charged Rivera with two counts of aggravated assault towards a public servant, prison mischief, and prison trespass. They charged Giangrossi with prison mischief, resisting arrest, and prison trespass.

“This case continues to be investigated concurrently by the Crimes Towards Individuals Unit, El Paso Police Inside Affairs, and the Texas Rangers from the Division of Public Security,” police officers stated in an announcement Thursday morning.
